In the "Respondent Perceptions of Farmland Buyers" section of University of Guelph’s 2023 Farmland Value and Rental Value Survey we see detailed responses from those directly involved in the agricultural sector—primarily farmers. The survey data reveals that, on average, respondents believe that 80% of farmland transactions in their areas involve farmland being purchased by other farmers. This suggests a trend of farmland predominantly remaining within the farming community. The report also notes significant regional variations in these perceptions, with reported percentages ranging from as low as 8% in Peel to 100% in Perth. Such differences reflect local economic factors, the availability of agricultural land, and urban expansion pressures, which are crucial for policymakers and agricultural stakeholders to consider when planning for the future of agriculture and land use.
